Lecutre on the National Library of Korea

On 23rd February, I was invited by the National Library of Sri Lanka (NLSL) to deliver a lecture on "National Library of Korea and its' Services" at the National Library Auditorium in Colombo.

My lecture was focused on the national bibliographic control in South Korea including the legal deposit system, Korean National Bibliography, Korean Decimal classification, Korean Cataloguing Rules, KORMARC, KOLIS-NET, and OASIS. Also I introduced about various services in the National Library of Korea (NLK) including CDRS, Document Delivery, ILL services, National Library for Children & Young Adults and conservation & preservation practices in the NLK.

The lecture was listened by the Chairman, Director General, and the Librarians of NLSL. They were very impressed about the sound bibliographic control system in South Korea as well as the effective services of the NLK.

Article in a Korean Journal

My article titled, "Korean language education and Korean studies collections in Sri Lanka", was published in "Trends in Korean Studies Libraries" no. 02, an international journal published by the National Library of Korea. You may view the article through the following link:

In my article, I have discussed about the past and the present status of Korean language studies in Sri Lanka. I also have given attention on the Korean language collections in Sri Lanka.

Bibliographic Control in South Korea

On 12th February, I presented a paper on "Bibliographic Control in South Korea" at the Achievers' Colloquium of the University Librarians Association (ULA) of Sri Lanka held at the Open University of Sri Lanka.

There, I discussed the bibliographic control initiatives in South Korea with special reference to the national bibliographic control. I also discussed possible initiatives for the national library service in Sri Lanka, as per my experiences.

2010 KOICA Volunteers visits University of Kelaniya Library

The 2010 KOICA Volunteer team along with the KOICA Officials visited the University of Kelaniya Main Library on 20th January 2010.

Lecture for KOICA Volunteers

I delivered a lecture for the 2010 KOICA Volunteer Team at the KOICA Volunteers Orientation Program at the KOICA Office, Colombo on 12th January, 2010. Theme of the lecture was "Introduction to the history, culture & etiquette in Sri Lanka". 18 KOICA Volunteers attended the program.
