දකුණු ආසියාව තුළ කොරියානු අධ්‍යයන ප්‍රවර්ධනය (Promotion of Korean Studies in India & South Asia) යන මැයෙන් ඉන්දියාවේ ජවහර්ලාල් නේරු විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය, කොරියාවේ කොරියානු අධ්‍යයන ඇකඩමිය හා කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය එක්ව සංවිධානය කළ සම්මන්ත්‍රණය මැයි මස 30-31 දෙ දින කොළඹදී පැවැත්වුණි. කොරියානු අධ්‍යයනයන්ට අදාළව භාෂාව, සංස්කෘතිය, ඉතිහාසය ද්වි පාර්ශවික ආර්ථික දේශපාලන සබඳතා, භාෂාව ඉගැන්වීම,   බුදුදහම ආදී විෂයයන් යටතේ පර්යේෂණ පත්‍රිකා රැසක් ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ විද්වතුන් විසින් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී.

Built Class Numbers easily with "DeweyBrowser"

OCLC has introduced a new service called 'DeweyBrowser' which helps you to build class numbers easily.

It enables you to search/browse class numbers as per WorldCat records. In addition to providing class, it connects you to relevant documents with bibliographic details.

Also you can navigate through main classes, divisions & sections of DDC too.

පුස්තකාලයාධිපතිවරු මහජන විශ්වාසය අතින් ඉහළින්ම සිටින බවත්, විශේෂයෙන්ම මහජන පුස්තකාල කාර්ය මණ්ඩලය ගත් කල ඔවුන් එහිදී දෙවැනි වන්නේ වෛද‍යවරුන්ට පමණක් බවත් බ්‍රිතාන්‍යයේ සිදු කල නවතම සමීක්ෂණ වාර්තාවක් හෙළි කරයි. මහජන පුස්තකාල මගින් ලබා දෙන සහාය මගින් තම අන්තර්ජාලය පිළිබඳ දැනුම ඉහල නැංවූ බව 80% ක් උපයෝජකයන් පවසති. මෙම සමීක්ෂණය සිදු කලේ බ්‍රිතාන්‍යයේ 'ප්‍රධාන පුස්තකලයධිපතිවරුන්ගේ සමාජය' (UK Society of Chief Librarians) මගිනි. ඒ අනුව බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය සමාජය තුල තොරතුරු සේවා සපයන අනෙකුත් ආයතන අතර පුස්තකාලයන්ට ඉහළ පිළිගැනීමක් පවතින බව තහවුරු වේ. මෙලෙස තොරතුරු ලබා ගැනීමේ ක්‍රියාවලියේදී අනිකුත් මාධ්‍ය අභිභවා පුස්තකාල කෙරෙහි මහජනයා විශ්වාසය තැබීම මගින් පුස්තකාල සේවාවේ අනාගත පැවැත්ම පිළිබඳව විශ්වාසයක් ඇතිවන ඇතිවන අතරම නව තොරතුරු මාධ්‍ය හා තොරතුරු සේවා සපයන්නවුන් හමුවේ පුස්තකාලයේ කාර්යයභාරය අවතක්සේරු වනු ඇති බවට වූ අදහස් ද යටපත් වනු ඇත. දැන් අපගේ කාර්යභාරය වනුයේ ඉහත විශ්වාසය ශ්‍රී ලංකික පාඨකයා තුළ ඇති කිරීමට අපගේ පුස්තකාලයනට ගත හැකි ක්‍රියාමාර්ග පිළිබඳව වහා අවධානය යොමු කිරීම නොවේද?

Encyclopedia Britannica Goes Online Only!

The 224 year old authoritative reference source "Encyclopedia Britannica (EB)" has decided to abandon its' print version and restrict only to the Online edition. The company has printed the encyclopedia, which runs to 32 volumes in length, since 1768. The 2010 edition was the last published edition.

Jorge Cauz, Encyclopaedia Britannica’s president said “We just decided that it was better for the brand to focus on what really the future is all about”. He further mentioned that ”Our database is very large now, much larger than can fit in the printed edition. Our print set version is an abridged version of what we have online.”

Information Literacy Education (ILE) & the Culture : a research article

I found this very useful article written by Dorner & Gorman (2011) which appeared in "Information Research", where the researchers focus on how culture must be considered in planning ILE programs in a developing country. Understanding of local cultural norms in the context of the Lao education system is based on Hofstede's five dimensions of culture.

- Power Distance Index (PDI)
- Individualism (IDV)
- Masculinity (MAS)
- Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI)
- Long-Term Orientation (LTO)

Also the indigenous knowledge and local conditions are studied to demonstrate how these factors affect ILE.
